Chiang Rai offers year-round travel opportunities. Experience the refreshing coolness of the air atop the hills whenever you visit ‘Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa’. This time we visited Chiang Rai during the peak of winter, in February, and even though it was expected to be very cold, the air on the hills remained pleasantly cool in the mornings and evenings. It’s quite unexpected to encounter such cool weather at the end of February. This adds to the charm of our love for the northern mountainous regions.
“Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa” is located in Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai Province, near tourist attractions such as Choui Fong Tea Plantation. Situated atop a hill, the resort boasts spacious grounds and luxurious contemporary-style décor, featuring a fusion of modern design and traditional Lanna influences. Even just the entrance lobby is impressively grand.
At midnight, they light up a massive bonfire to keep warm. It’s the largest bonfire I’ve ever seen in Thailand, and it’s not just for show—it’s a real fire pit that emits genuine heat. In the chilly night air, this bonfire provides such cozy warmth.
Our accommodation is the Katiliya Suite, a room highly favored by guests who come to stay. It boasts a spacious 100-square-meter room with a wide balcony offering mountain views. The bathroom is large, featuring both a bathtub and a rain shower, all separated into distinct sections. The luxurious décor adds to the overall ambiance.
The body lotion and shampoo are wonderfully fragrant and of excellent quality. They truly enhance the experience.
Another room that’s equally impressive is the Mountain Suite, especially the balcony area. Although the balcony may not be as wide as the one in the Katiliya Suite, it offers a beautiful spot for photography. It’s a spacious enough terrace to comfortably capture stunning views of the mountains. The interior of the room is also luxuriously decorated, in the signature Katiliya style.
This level of luxury is elevated even further with the Duplex Suite, featuring a charming loft area and mountain views. Additionally, the bathroom includes an outdoor shower for a unique bathing experience.
“Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa” features two swimming pools, with the main pool being the largest. Located behind the lobby, this main pool offers a sense of privacy despite its designation as the main pool. Surrounding the pool are gardens filled with flowering plants, tropical trees, and various pavilions, creating a beautiful setting for a private swim amidst the lush garden scenery.
As we take you on to see the second pool, you’ll find yourself walking amidst a well-maintained natural garden. It’s a delightful stroll through the lush greenery of the resort’s grounds.
Here we are. This pool is for those seeking even more privacy. It’s a heated pool, perfect for those looking to unwind in warmth away from the crowd.
The dinner at Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa is truly the best in this area. The view of the sunset is breathtaking, as the sky transitions from shades of pink to fiery orange before darkness gradually takes over. It’s a truly romantic moment.
Regarding this dish, we highly recommend trying Northern Thai cuisine. One dish you must try is ‘Laab Khua’, a Northern-style spicy minced meat salad. It might make you forget about the traditional Northeastern ‘Laab’ (spicy minced meat salad) because it’s so delicious with intense flavors and fragrant spices. Also, don’t miss out on the Northern-style desserts!
Western cuisine, such as freshly baked homemade crispy pizza served hot, along with organic salads, would be an excellent choice.
A beautiful cocktail for tonight could be a vibrant sunset-colored cocktail.
A homemade dessert would be perfect.
Before heading to Katiliya Park this morning, let’s have breakfast first. Breakfast at Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa emphasizes quality and fresh ingredients, enjoyed in the refreshing morning ambiance.
Once we’ve finished our meal, let’s stroll past this pool. It seems to be the third pool, a smaller one, yet the surrounding area appears to be quite spacious. If we wish to explore the surroundings thoroughly, it might take more time than this. Since we have only one day, let’s focus on visiting the highlights of Katiliya Mountain Resort and Spa. This pool area represents the expansive boundaries of the resort.
Katiliya Park is a small-sized zoo with natural walking paths. Here, you’ll encounter a variety of adorable animals and rare species of birds, providing a delightful experience for visitors.
