More than just relaxing at a 5-star hotel, experience the richness of Lanna culture at ‘Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai’

Many times, I’ve heard the name ‘Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai’ being touted as the ultimate reflection of grandeur and beauty, echoing the magnificence of Lanna culture. Whoever visits once, carries with them endless tales and memories, making it a must-have on the list of dream hotels for travelers. Having experienced it firsthand this time, I can confidently say that ‘Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai’ is indeed the epitome of Thai hospitality that everyone should visit at least once.

From the enchantment, closeness, and love for Lanna culture to the splendor of “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” it impresses us from the very first encounter. Starting from the lobby, lotus ponds, fresh lychee drinks, and traditional snacks, to the charming staff, each and every aspect leaves a lasting impression.

With its vast size spanning up to 150 acres, “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” provides shuttle bus services to various points throughout the property. Along the way to the accommodation, there are plenty of sights to behold, with architecture ranging from newly constructed structures to meticulously restored old buildings. This intricate attention to detail showcases the craftsmanship and expertise required to create such elaborate works.

At “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai,” there are various room types available, starting with the “Garden Villa.” These villas are surrounded by the resort’s organic vegetable garden, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Thai houses.

The Deluxe Villas at “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” are equally popular. These villas are designed with Lanna architecture, incorporating modern amenities to suit contemporary tastes. The villas consist of two floors, with ample space inside. The lower level features a spacious sitting area where guests can relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and admire views of the swimming pool and Jacuzzi. There is also a bathroom on the lower floor. The upper floor comprises a bedroom, a dressing area, a bathroom with a rain shower, and a terrace.

Underneath the Deluxe Villa, there is also a designated sitting area where guests can relax and enjoy a full view of the swimming pool.

Opposite the Deluxe Villa is the Art and Craft Village, another spot I really love. It feels like a living museum where you can see old Lanna-style houses. The arrangement and household items are exactly like those of real Lanna villagers.

Below, there are two grandmothers sitting and teaching how to weave traditional fish traps, a cute activity that children would surely enjoy.

The family villas at “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” offer utmost privacy and can accommodate up to 6-8 people. It feels like having your own exclusive enclave within the resort, akin to a private sanctuary within the property. Staying here is akin to relaxing in an art gallery, where admiring the intricate artworks is a rare treat.

Once you step into the kingdom of “Dhara Dhevi” don’t forget to indulge in the renowned cuisine here. The Cantonese restaurant offers a dim sum buffet during lunchtime, featuring a selection of delicious dim sum. The highlight is the use of premium fresh ingredients, immersing you in an authentic Chinese dining experience.

There are various types of freshly steamed dim sum, but what makes it special here is the incredibly crispy pork with extremely thin layers of fat. Additionally, there are crispy fried pork skin without excess oil, and the highlight of the menu is the signature dish ‘begging chicken,’ which is a unique creation inspired by Chinese tradition. The chicken is baked in soil beforehand, resulting in a tender and fragrant taste.

In addition to the Lanna-style atmosphere, “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” also offers Colonial-style accommodation with the “Ratana Puraya Suite.” This is a blend of Western ambiance with the opulence of Mandalay, Myanmar, which perfectly captures the essence of the region. Those who have visited northern Thailand, such as Chiang Mai or Lampang, might notice that the architecture of temples like Wat Waraaram or many traditional houses have been influenced by Burmese art. Similarly, this suite exhibits the beauty reminiscent of the palaces in Myanmar, which were influenced by British colonial architecture.

And importantly, there are also pool villas available. These villas offer a serene and private atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and unwinding.

Not content with just creating the Lanna Kingdom, “Dhara Dhevi” also features the Mandalay Kingdom with the “Mandalay Suite” – luxurious pool villas with two bedrooms. These opulent accommodations exude grandeur and sophistication, often making them a highly sought-after option for guests.

“The Deva Spa” is modeled after the royal palaces in Mandalay, exuding exquisite beauty and intricate details. It has served as a filming location for numerous movies and series.

The swimming pools offer various atmospheres, allowing guests to choose from a range of experiences.

For breakfast at “Akaligo,” the food lineup is extensive, offering a full international buffet. Additionally, guests can also order a la carte dishes, providing a diverse and delicious dining experience.

In the morning, there’s a special surprise with “Boonchob,” the big-bodied water buffalo, showing up near the “Akaligo” dining area, happily chewing grass, providing a delightful and serene atmosphere for guests.

At this point, I would like to suggest taking photos together at the pavilion modeled after the famous Umong Temple, a renowned temple in Chiang Mai. The pavilion is adorned with images of various birds, representing the beauty and elegance of nature. Upon observation, you’ll notice that “Dhara Dhevi” incorporates bird symbols throughout its architecture and various hotel amenities. Birds serve as representatives of beauty and grace, with the peacock being a symbol closely associated with the Dhara Dhevi Hotel.

1 night, 2 days at “Dhara Dhevi” makes you realize that this is more than just a 5-star hotel; it surpasses other 5-star hotels found abundantly across Thailand. “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai” is more than that; it’s a grand living museum. Every Thai person who has the chance to see it should feel amazed and proud at least once in their lifetime. If given the opportunity, we wish everyone could experience “Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai.”
